Is a Bichon Frises a good choice for children?

My kids are 18 months and two-and-a-half and they really want a puppy.

A Bichon would be great. Just make sure to teach your children the proper way to handle and act around a dog.

Certainly! Bichon's love to play with children. A word of caution though, please supervise younger children so they do not accidentally hurt the dog.

No. Bichon Frises are not good for small children. They do best with children aged 10 and older. Small dogs are often impatient with little children.

As far as temperament goes, the Bichon Frises is a good choice for children. However, you may be better off getting a larger more rugged breed dog. Bichons are very delicate, and as such adult supervision is mandatory to prevent the children from accidentally hurting the dog whilst playing.

Bichon Frise generally have a friendly disposition and get along well with children. However care should be taken when around young children as they can easily hurt the dog without meaning to. So long as you explain that the dog is a living creature and should be treated gently and supervise play there should be no problems.

Your children seen a little young to be making this type of choice. This is a fine animal breed however, small children want a lot of things that they don't realize will need a lot of care and attention. If you are considering a pet for them, I would wait until they were quite a few years older.

Bichons might be a little for fragile for very young children whom might unintentionally hurt the dog and get nipped at. A slightly larger/sturdy dog might be a better choice.
