In a marriage, why do some husbands think of their wives as mommy?

I think this is only, usually, if the couple has kids. So, the husband might refer to his wife as "mommy" in front of his kids, but it is pretty weird otherwise.

I guess part of the reason is because mommy was the first woman in their life. Some men like to be taken care of and babied. A lot of men , without realizing it, look for a wife who is just like Mom. I think a lot of men who aren't emotionally mature need a "second" mommy.
