I think I have a cracked block but there's no water in the oil. Why is this?

you might have a cracked block, but the crack might not be all the way through to the combustion part of the engine. so the crack might just be a hair line crack thats just making it leak coolant, where as the oil is further into the engine so the engine would still be ok apart from it would overheat

If the leaking you experience is plainly water or oil alone, then the crack is nowhere leading into either the coolant or combustion system.

Your crack doesn't yet extend into any water chamber, so there's no infiltration of coolant into the combustion area. Try Super-Weld by Goop Eclectic, you may get lucky.

You will not always have water collecting in the oil. It could be burning off in the cylinder or evaporating. You should still tear down the engine to confirm that the block is cracked and that it's not something else like a blown head gasket.

Depending on where the crack is and how bad it is water may not tamper with the oil, however any crack no matter how small should be fixed.

A crack in the block may not pass between the water jacket and cylinders so oil may not escape. oil or water may leak through on its own.

Depending on where your block is cracked it might not let water into the oil. If your cylinder cracked coolant might be leaking in and being sent out the exhaust as steam.

Water in the oil is more a sign of a cracked head than a cracked block. It is possible to have no water in the oil with a cracked block.

the block may not be cracked near one of the water veins. have a mechanic check to make sure that the block is cracked.

The crack that you may have taken may not have been enough to cause this certain leek. If the crack does seem to get worse over time it could cause a leek.

A cracked block doesn't necessarily mean you will have water in your oil. It will depend where the crack is located and how big it is.
