collecting

Question by  Susan65 (24)

How would I determine the value of a nickel collection?

My grandfather gave it to me; his grandfather gave it to him and he continued adding to it over the years.

Check your local phone book under coin collectors or numismatists. A numismatist is one that studies coins or medals. Have the collection appraised. The value of each coin is determined by the age, rarity and condition. You can receive an appraisal on each coin or as a collection.

A local antiques dealer would be able to give you a value or direct you to a place to help. You may try a coin shop or even a pawn shop in your area. I recommend getting more than one appraisal. Research them for yourself online and on auction sights prior to visiting a local shop.

Coin dealers should be able to give you some estimates. There are also books that list prices based on the condition of the items. You might also check some coin related magazines or newspapers that have information.
