How will I know what kind of dog is right for me?

I really want to get a dog but have no idea where to begin my research, what questions should I be asking myself to determine what dog I want?

Ask yourself how much time will I be with the dog, how much space do I have and how much time do I want to devote to dog. You need to research for the type suited to your living space, dog exercise time, and dog's level of "need" of stimulus. There is more to getting a dog than one might think.

Where do you live? If you live in an apartment or a home with a small yard a small dog is the best choice. If you have a yard you can get a bigger dog since they need room to run. Do you have kids? If you have kids you need a dog that fairs well with kids.

Mostly chosing a pet is a personal preference. What type of breeds to which you are attracted? Do you want indoor or outdoor? I recommend deciding indoor or outdoor, large or small, then get a breed book and match your decisions. Once you have chosen a breed, visit a local breeder and finalize your questions. The reward is worth it.

What size dog do you want? , will you be keeping the dog indoors or outdoors? Do you have a lot of time to dedicate to grooming?
