If you're stuck with Cytospora canker only pruning will help. Fungicides do not help at all. Pruning is an art and requires quite some skill in Cytospora canker infested spruce trees. Get some expert help.

There's a lot of controversy about watering - some people say a strong watering will help Cytospora canker, but others warn that this could actually kill the tree! Very confusing!!  add a comment

This depends on the type of disease. If it is a fungal infection there are anti fungal sprays you can buy. If it is parasite you can try killing the insects. Consult an arborealist for more in depth advice.

Identify where the problem is coming from- is it coming from insects or pests? If yes, then it is very bust to use chemicals to control and or keep away the insects. Another thing, cut off the infected branches of the spruce tree to prevent disease from spreading. Best thing is to use chemicals to keep insects at bay.

Insect problems are a big problem with spruce trees - mites, moths, adelgids, budworms and more can wreck the spruce trees. Use insecticides judiciously and consult a specialist on how to spray correctly.

How to treat your spruce tree will depend on what type of disease your tree has. Two common diseases are Rhizosphaera needlecast and Cytospora canker. Canker effects the whole branch and treatment requires pruning of infected branches. Needlecast is a disease of the foliage and requires a fungicide treatment. Call a local tree specialist to help diagnose your particular problem.

If you need help confirming what disease your spruce has a lab identification can be done and wil be important in deciding what to use and how often.  add a comment

Depending on the disease, treatment could be as simple as buying a fungicide. If that does not help, you may need to prune the diseased areas until it is gone.
