It depends on your tolerance for pain. I didn't find mine to be painful at all. As a general rule, get it pierced with a needle at a tattoo/piercing shop, rather than with the piercing gun at a mall store. Not only is it cleaner, the sharp needle will hurt a lot less than the duller needle in the gun.

Helix piercings are not near as painful as people make them seem. I didn't even feel mine at the time of piercing. The only problem I had with mine was it hurt when I tried to sleep on it. I suggest getting an earring with a flat back.

the key to a good piercing is a painless piercing, having done this piercing numerous times myself, clients didn't complain about the pain (just remember to eat before any piercing)

The pain level of a helix piercing is based on the pain threshold of the person getting pierced.Usually the initial piercing isn't as painful as the healing process where the ear can be swollen and sometimes infected.
