Growing children need about ten hours of sleep a night. Eight or nine might be okay, but ten is ideal. Look into factors like, is he doing well in school? Does he fall asleep in class? Is he remembering things and making safe choices? If he is doing well and healthy, he is probably getting enough sleep.

The amount of sleep a teenager needs varies heavily throughout the years, depending on hormones, stress, and energetic outlet. There may be times when he needs closer to 8 or 9 hours, and there may be times when he can run healthily on just a few hours. Consult a doctor.

My grandson is also 14 and he goes to bed at 10 pm and up at 645 a.m. for school. On weekends he stays up til 1100 and sleeps in til 10 and he does fine with this. He gets between 7-9 hours sleep. Every kids is different as adults. Kids as adults need to have more sleep than others.

Everyone is different but on average teenagers should get 9 hours of sleep each night. More than 9 hours if your very physically active.
