A male elephant can weigh 9000 pounds to 13000 pounds, while a female can weigh 4500 pounds to 7000 pounds. An average adult elephant in this case would weigh and average of 8375 pounds.

It depends on the species of elephant. Asian elephants tend to be between 5,000 - 6,600 pounds, with the females being larger than the males. African elephants are almost twice as large. The African male can weigh up to 15,400 pounds, weighing 14,000 pounds on average. Female Africans weigh quite a bit less, averaging 11,000 pounds.

The average adult elephant's weight varies from elephant to elephant, however, a close estimation would put an average adult elephant in at weighing one ton. It may be a little more or it may be a little less, but the closest guess is about one ton for the average elephant.
