Although there are only three basic families of the avocado (Guatemalan, Mexican, and West Indian) there are nearly 500 varieties of avocados. This includes Bacon, Fuerte, Gwen, Hass, Reed, Zutano, California Raw, Pinkerton, Nabal, Ettinger, Cukes, Wertz, Edranol, Ryan, and Benik. Avocados are commonly grown in Israel, America, South Africa, and Spain.
