One beta fish would be okay to put into a tank of this size. However, for most fish this tank size is way to small. Even a goldfish would not be able to live in a tank that is this small. Remember, only one beta fish can be put in this size of a tank.

A 2. 5 gallon fish tank should hold no more than 4-6 tiny fish, or 2 larger fish. Four Neons, a pair of Guppies, one Beta fish, or a pair of Gouramis would be great additions to a small tank. A 2. 5 gallon tank is not large enough to build a community.

The general rule is that you should limit the amount of fish in a tank to one inch of fish for every gallon of water. In smaller tanks you should round this down. Therefore in a 2. 5 gallon tank you could put 4 small fish like tetras or 2 larger one inch fish like some species of goldfish.

This depends on the size and the type of the fish you buy. You can put a lot of guppies, but only one clownfish, in a tank that size.
