The specific number would be different for every person depending upon their age, height, weight and activity level, but as a general rule you want to eat as many calories as you would burn in a day to maintain your weight. Going under or over will eventually result in a loss or gain.

It's impossible to know how many calories a person should eat to maintain their weight without knowing what kind of lifestyle they lead. Someone with an active lifestyle may need to eat 2100 calories a day to maintain weight, and someone else may need only 1500.

It depends on how many calories a day a person burns. Counting calories isn't always a sure fire method, but on average, you should be having approximately 1,000 calories a day more than you burn off. Obviously then, the amount of calories for each will differ from person to person.
