Recovery from shoulder surgery normally takes 6-7 months. It could be painful but there are medications that could be taken and exercises that could be done to ease the pain and insure the proper healing of a shoulder after surgery.

Recovery time varies greatly from person to person and the exact type of surgery you have. If you have an open surgery you could be required to stay in the hospital overnight. Either way you will have to wear a sling. Physical therapy plays a huge role in recovering from this.

It takes about 3 to 4 weeks ro recover from the hspital medication. The pain is minimal due to anethesia given during the surgery. You can even install a 'pain pump' for 2 to 3 days to recover sooner.

Of course it varies from patient to patient but generally it takes a few months to recover from shoulder surgery. At first do not put too much stree on the shoulder, gradually introduce rehab. Pain medication may be prescribed by your Doctor for any discomfort.
