Four weeks is minimum time. After that you can start adding some canned food. It is best to let the kitten feed on mom's milk up to 12 weeks.

Most sources I have read, heard or watched recommend that the kitten or kittens stay with the mother for at least eight weeks. Many breeders have been known to refuse to sell kittens before twelve weeks to get mother's milk benefits that include antibodies as well as cat socialization skills.

Domesticated house cats and feral cats that retain their litters will breast feed there kittens for up to 4 months. During this time if the mother cat will (if possible) bring bake small dead animals to teach the kittens the taste of blood. The mother will also teach them hunting skills before weaning the litter entirely.

Typically your cat should only breast feed a month or so. As soon you start to see/feel the teeth, they should be eating canned food, slowly switching to dry. Some cats, especially those taken from mom too soon, but others as well, will want to continue breast feeding forever, and may even suck on blankets/their own nipples.
