How does the water pressure tank work in an rv?

Water isn't compressible, so air is used in RV's to make water pressure. The pressure tank contains a rubber bladder with with air in it. When the RV's water pump pushes water into the tank, it compresses the bladder. When a tap is turned on, the air pushes the water out and through the pipes.

Some old style tanks were fitted with a schrader valve so you could put pressure on the tank to push water through the system. Others had an air pressure pump that pressurized the tank, often connected to a pressure switch that would cut it on automatically when pressure got low.  add a comment

The pressure tank contains an air-filled rubber bladder. When water is introduced to the tank, it compresses the bladder. When tap a is turned on, air pushes the water out.

Water-ressure-tanks usually have a flexible-sealed-bladder of air; when your water-pump is running, it pumps the water-pressure-tank full of water, compressing the sealed-air-bladder. When your pump turns off, the air-bladder is still compressed applying pressure to the water which forces a few gallons water out of the tank when you open a faucet. Water-pressure-tanks ease the start/stop load on your water-pump.

Well, air is used to create water pressure, because you can not compress water. There is a water pump in the rv. When the water pump is used, the air bladder gets used and the air eventually gets compressed. When you turn on the tap of a sink for example, the compressed air forces the water out.
