Unless the brain cancer is a type that is primary to the brain, then it is most likely metastasis from some other location in the body (breast/lung). Mets to the brain is usually an indication of advanced disease. The American Cancer Society would have more information for you.

In general most brain cancers start out with a latent period when the tumor is small and doesn't produce any symptoms. The early symptoms tend to be subtle and non-specific; but as the tumor grows apecific symptoms develop depending on which areas of the brain are affected by its presence.

It's different for every person, but often a change in personality, memory, motor skills and sometimes dementia. The part of brain most affected will often determine where and how severe the effects will be.

The life expectancy of someone with brain cancer is generally under two years. Even with aggressive treatment the prognosis is not hopeful. The progression varies from patient to patient.

There is not enough information here to know your friends progression. Her age , health , is she a smoker , is this a returning cancer. There are two types of brain cancer one is primary cancer this starts in the brain, the other form is metastatic brain cancer this starts in another part and moves to the brain.

Cancer is something that effects each person differently and it has different stages the best thing you can do is set up a consult with the attending physician and go in and let them explain everything to you so that you can understand and possibly help your friend through the changes as they occur. Spend as much time as possible.

Well basically, brain cancer has minimal chances of recovery. She will probably have to go through surgery to see if the tumor can be removed.
