It's easy to write an article for the local paper. The Letters to the Editor is the place that many if not most people who write for the paper begin their craft. From there the people who can write clearly write for local public institutions, such as the churches, clubs, and community page, the former "women's section" before the classifieds.

When writing articles for the newspaper, you must put the most important facts first, and in descending order of importance. You must answer "who?", "what?","when?","where?", and "how?", then perhaps "why?"

You need a catchy heading. This will draw the readers attention. Pack the first paragraph with information, mainly action to make the reader involved. Think about the audience and tailor the article to what they are like. Make it chronilogical and make the event local and filled with all the info you know about it. Hope this helps.

Usually you need a degree in journalism to get a job writing articles. But if you are confident you are a good writer then send your articles to the editor and ask him/her about becoming a freelance writer for their paper. You may get lucky! Also Magazines are always looking for writers too!

Write about topics you are very familiar with. Always address the 5Ws in any article you ever write: Who, What, Where, When, Why & How. It is good to address these topics briefly within the first paragraph, then devote a paragraph to each thereafter - space permitting.
