A person should do whatever they can to stop a friend from drinking and driving. The car keys can be taken or a cab can be called.

First, educate him about the consequences. The cost of a first time DUI can be a night in jail, an impounded vehicle, a suspended license, and thousands in fines and court costs. Good information can be found through MADD or your local highway patrol. Also, suggest options like planning ahead and taking a cab or a designated driver.

You need to take the keys from them, or drive them home. Tell their family members, because they will not want to lose a loved one! If none of these works, warn the cops and next time it happens call them and tell them. They will be thrown in jail, but it is a reality of what's possible to happen!

You can take their keys away. However, if they are determined, this will not stop them. Try calling the police and reporting them. A DUI is better than death.

If you are with the person, the easiest way to stop them from driving is to take their keys or offer to be a designated driver for them. If they drink and drive at other times, you can talk to their friends or offer to drive them at any time.
