How do you replace the speed sensor in a Malibu?

I have to floor the gas pedal to get any speed on my Malibu, I was told that is because the speed sensor is out.

The speed sensor is on the transmission. Just raise the vehicle, disconnect the wires to the sensor, and unbolt it. The installation is the removal in reverse.

You can order the speed sensor from any local auto store. Look in the owners manual to find the exact location on the vehicle. Once you find it, loosen the one screw that is holding in, and remove the piece. It's a two prong set up like electrical outlet, put in new sensor and put screw back.

The speed sensor is located at the end of the transmission by the axle shaft. It is simply 1 bolt to replace this sensor with a new one.

first you disconnecting the sensor will keep the light on,then you need to replace it if in fact that the light is on because it was probably diagnosed as a bad sensor cheap and the easy way to solve the problem is to put black tape on the dash light.

Depending on which speed sensor there is a vehicle speed sensor located on the transmission and it is simply unplugging and removing a few bolts.

If you are wanting to replace this sensor then you will need to take off the dash first. Then you can take out the old sensor and put the new one in.
