How do you replace drywall?

First remove all your old drywall leaving a straight clean edge on each side. Then cut your new piece and screw it into place. Next apply joint tape over the seams and your mud. Once dry sand and apply your skim coat. Once dried it can painted after final sanding.

You take the old drywall down and put up new in the same place. Tape it off and skim plaster on the seams.
