How do you publish poetry?

I have been writing a long time and I think I am good enough to be published.

You need to get a manuscript together. Put together samples of your poetry and then submit the manuscript to publishers. Poetry is very hard to get published, though. There isn't a high demand for it. You can try poetry contests and vanity presses, as well. You can also submit some of your writing to greeting card companies.

The best option is to start with getting one or two poems into circulation through written or on-line publications. You need to do some research into the magazine, journal or website that is most likely to publish your work. Look for ones that publish works similar to yours. Once you've picked one read their publication guidelines and submit your work.

You should research different publishing companies and figure out which ones would suit your work the best. Then try contacting them and telling them and maybe even sending them some of your work. If its good it will be published you just have to make it known.

You can search Duotrope (a writing website) or do an internet search for poetry magazines and websites that are open to submissions.

You should get the 2009 Writer's Market, where you'll find all of the publishers who specialize iun poetry. Be sure to read the guidelines as each publisher has a certain target audience. Then you write a letter to them stating what you want to submit and your qualifications.
