How do you pronounce the name for Russian dolls?

I have a collection of unique Russian dolls, I know that they are called something else other than Russian dolls but am not sure what it is.

Nested Russian dolls are also known as matryoshka. The name is said to be derived from the Russian word for mother,

I always call them baboushka (pronounced ba-boo-sh-ka) dolls. Babushka means grandmother. I think the more proper term is matryushka dolls (pronounced ma-troy-sh-ka).  add a comment

Russian dolls made of wood, or maybe plastic that nest inside each other are called Matryoshka dolls. They are often ornately painted.
