How do you plug a hole in a tire?

A hole in a car tire is best plugged by installing a vulcanized patch on the inside of the tire. Rubber plugs have been used in the past but are not as safe or reliable as the patch. The tire needs to be balanced after the patch is applied.

If the hole isn't too large, there are repair kits available at most Auto Parts stores. Wal-Mart carries the least expensive kit which has everything you need for the job.

Get a patch kit, and a spray bottle full of soapy water. Pry out the puncturing object, then ream out the hole with the reaming tool. Use the other tool to push the string in, leaving 1" of both ends sticking out. Cut off excess, test with soapy water.
