How do you make sure you lose fat not muscle?

Everyone I have spoken to regarding this have all agreed cardio workouts are the way to loose fat and tone muscles. A sensible diet, plenty of fruit, vegetables and protein.

It doesn't exactly work that way. Your body naturally keeps muscle and the way you keep it is through exercise. What you can try to do is shed your fat and create muscle. Your body won't shed muscle, it'll only shed fat. But if you stop exercising, your body will lose the muscle and turn it into fat.

If you exercise between 20 and 40 minutes it helps to burn fat and build muscles. If you exercise longer on a regular base you lose fat, but also muscles.

The key to losing fat and not muscle is to start doing a good exercise and strength training routine along with eating a healthier diet. If you are eating less but not working your muscles, you will lose both muscle and fat when losing weight.
