I think the old trusty move is to yawn and simultaneously reach over the girl's shoulders to put your arm around her. It has never failed because you instantly know if she's comfortable or not. If she cuddles closer, you are in.

Don't force yourself on your new potential mate. It's only going to scare them. Try holding their hand or putting your arm around their shoulder first. Do that for a whole and if your new partner seems into it try making your move. Go ahead and plop a kiss on them if your partner is into it.
