You house train an older dog in the same way that you housetrain a puppy. However, you often have to be extra patient because you have to break old habits. Take your dog outside frequently and give positive reinforcement when it "goes" where you want. Avoid punishing bad behaviour as this has not been shown to be effective.

The most effective way to train a dog of any age is to crate train. Keep the dog in the crate, and then take them out to go do their business during the day. Make sure the crate is big enough for the dog to be able to stand up and turn around in.

It is VERY hard to house train an older dog. The dog has been on this earth for many years and is probably set in his ways. Just keep taking the dog out a lot after you see it eat or drink and frequently throughout the day.

You would train him just the same as a puppy. Take him out as often as possible and when he goes outside give him lots of praise and/or treats. Don't react if he does his business inside, just clean it up really well. Your dog is probably still adjusting as well so he might pick up the habit slower.

Take the dog ouside at the same time every day, several times a day. When he goes to the bathroom praise him and pet him alot.
