Answer by  NSL (81)

In order for a felony offense to be expunged it has to be an offense that occured before the age of 18, and a judge must agree to allow for the expunging of the offense. In other words the record would have to be sealed.

It depends on the charge, how long ago it occurred, time served, successful completion of probation, etc. The individual must demonstrate a changed, meaningful and contributing life. The request must be made of the governor of the state. It helps to have political ties and/or deep pockets.

The rules for this vary greatly from state to state, and you will need to check the law for the state where the charge was filed. At a minimum, all proceedings will have to have ended for any expungement.
