How do you fix laptop USB port hardware?

This is a complex problem requiring more information. For instance, do all device that you plug in to the USB not work? If so, it could be that the USB was disabled in BIOS. If so, try pressing 'DEL' key on boot-up and find an entry dealing with USB enabled.

If you're using windows try opening Device Manager (Control Panel, System, Device Manager) and uninstalling any USB ports and rebooting. Windows should reinstall them automaticly.

If you're sure its the hardware having issues it will require opening the actual laptop and doing fine soldering work on the board itself to the connection points for your ports. Not recommended. Try messing with your drivers first.

Chances are you have a lose connection or something more serious. If you need USB access best bet is take it to a shop or buy a pcmcia usb card.

Make sure that in the device manager all the ports are in working condition. Also sure the proper driver is installed for the motherboard. update your drivers in device manager.

The most likely culprit of the USB port not working is internal problems. You would not be able to fix that. Take it to a professional computer repair shop to/avoid/damage/to/your/laptop.

Right click my computer and go to the hardware manager, see if the drivers are installed or if the usb port is enabled.

Check in the device manager and make sure all the ports are in working order. If they are make sure the proper driver is installed for the motherboard. If it is, attempt to do all the windows updates for the operating system. The software may be messing up.

First make sure the problem is not with the USB device, by seeing if it works on another computer. If you have a "write-only tab", push it into an unlocked position. Go into device manager and update your drivers.
