You do not need to file papers for a seperation. But if you decide to get a divorce they are two grounds for filing. 1 year seperation and incurable insanity. Then you will state under oath that you did not live together for a year, to prove legal seperation.

To file legal separation papers you should consult with an attorney to have them drawn up so that you are protected. Once the papers are drawn up you will then submit them to the family courts in your district and have a judge rule on the temperory seperation and what will occur duing the mean time.
