How do you determine magnetic force?

A gaussmeter is the most common tool to measure magnetic force. It's a hand held device that measure the magnetism of what comes into contact with its probe.

Magnetic force is just a force so you can measure it with a simple scale. The trick is to keep the scale away from the magnet. Tie a piece of steel to some fishing line and attach that to the scale. Null the scale and then move the magnet underneath the steel, the scale now reads the magnetic force
