In order to create a distressed, antiqued look on different furniture pieces, you need to make sure that you have lots of sandpaper. Then, take the sandpaper and gently start rubbing away the paint or stain on the chosen piece of furniture. This will create the look you are after; just make sure not too rub TOO much away.

Distressed wood furniture is easy to do if it is painted. All you have to do is take some sand paper and begin to sand some of the finish off. As the paint comes off it will begin to take on the character of distressed furniture.

Throw a bunch of nuts and bolts and things in a bag, you can then strike the wood making dents and dings in the furniture piece. Sanding certain spots gets you a distressed look as well. Then, apply a dirty brown wash of a very thin latex paint or even a coffee rub to accentuate the marks you just created.
