In my experience using the 1-2-3 rule works best. Measure 1 cup of rice, bring 2 cups of water to boil in a medium sauce pan. Add the rice to the boiling water and stir. Reduce the heat to simmer, cover and cook for 30 minutes. Perfect rice every time.

First take a cup of dry rice and rinse it off. Then put it in a pan with water about 1/2 inch higher then the rice. Bring to a boil. Reduce the heat cover and let it cook for about 25 minutes. Do not peak while its cooking.

Boil, fry it, or steam it. Boiling requires placing the rice in boiling water long enough to make sure it is soft. Frying it requires a little bit of oil and heating it until it browns without letting it burn. Steaming requires a rice cooker for most people.

Using a rice cooker, once the desired amount of rice is put into the pot you must double the amount of water. Adding a teaspoon of oil also helps.

Bring water to a boil and add a pinch of salt, and then the rice. Bring back to a good boil, reduce heat to low simmer until water is gone.
