The dwarf river birch requires soil right around 3 to 6 PH,fine to medium grained.the tree needs plenty of sunlight and the soil must not dry out between waterings.never prune a birch until summer as it will bleed sap.The tree is disease resistant but needs to be protected from the gypsy moth larvae in the spring.

As these shrubs are relatively small to comparison with other trees, probably it is attacked by scales or another sucker insect, Is recommended in this case to make a total cover of the tree with an insecticide.
