Some high-end systems utilize separate pressure sensors in each tire that sends a radio signal to the car's computer but, most basic systems use the anti-lock brake sensors to sense a small difference in tire speeds since a low tire spins slower than an inflated one.

The way tire pressure sensors work is there is a small monitor attached to inside of the rim. It is design to sense the amount of air pressure in each wheel. When the pressure drops the sensor wirelessly communicates with the car's computer and alerts the driver.
