The single lens reflex camera works in this way. There is a mirror system inside the lens that directs light from the iris opening to the viewfinder. The light is used to trigger the CCD which imprints the image onto the memory card. All of the functions of the single reflex are digital.

The single lens projects light onto a Charge-Coupled Device, which is made up of a large number of photo-sensitive cells that produce an electric charge proportional to the light intensity.
