Xterra vehicles are not built with knock sensors. If you have a knock its most likely due to a valve adjustment. Try a thicker oil.

Need sensor that matches Xterra both with brand and type. Unconnect entire intake manifold both lower and upper parts. Sensor is located on engine block when you take off the lower manifold which looks like a shape of a doughnut. Pull wire off then unscrew it. Put new sensor in and connect the wire to it. Reinstall reverse of instructions.

There are multiple knock sensors on any engine. Locate the knock sensor that needs replaced. Unplug the bad knock sensor and replace it with a new one. Make sure the wires are routed correctly and away from any heat source.

You're going to need a sensor that matches your Xterrra, both in brand and in type, you can consult your car manual on this. This is a fairly difficult repair, if you consider yourself a novice i would recommend either consulting your car manual, or seeking the help of a licensed mechanic to-be safe.

You need to remove the entire intake manifold, both the upper and lower sections. You will see the sensor on the engine block after you take the lower manifold off. It is doughnut shaped. Pull the wire off and unbolt it. Put the wire on the new sensor and reinstall in the reverse of removal.

Bolt securing knock sensor should be removed. Remove the electrical plug for pulling the sensor out of the engine bay. Plug the new sensor to the factory-wiring harness. Handle the sensor with care before bolting up,if you drop it down it is unusable. Bolt the sensor and tighten to 20lb-ft. Have a leveled tight or it will damage the sensor.

To replace the knock sensor of your vehicle you will need to take apart your dash first. Once the dash is taken off you can locate near the center console.
