First, make sure you separate dark and light colors and whites. Wash dark-colored clothing in cold water to keep the color true, including bright reds, hot pinks, and any clothing that is brightly colored. You can also use a detergent specially made to help keep clothing colorfast. Washing your clothes by hand is gentler, so it can also slow fading.

Do not wash in hot water, wash clothes of similar colors together, and do not wash unless they need it. For blacks you can always do a redye with a simple Rit dye kit available at most grocery stores as a large load. This will help darken them up. Also, dry cleaning is an expensive but does work option.

You can use an anti fade detergent such as Woolite. I find that Tide also keeps good color in my clothes. Also a color safe bleach is good for keeping all you colors bright and clean.

The first step is too try to limit the amount of times you are washing the garment, as more frequent washing wears clothes. Second, always follow the care instructions (ie, if it says handwash only, then hand wash it). Also, try using detergent without dyes or fragrances.

Try using Woolite or other degertents made for colors. Turn clothes inside out and wash in cold water on the shortest cycle. Avoid oxy-type stain lifters.

Clothes usually fades due to usage of wrong kind od detergents. So, buy best brand of detergents although it is slightly costlier. After washing is over don't hang clothes uner direct sun light. Especially dark coloured clothes always put under shades although it will take more time for drying. Avoid putting light coloured and dark coloured clothes together for washing.

One of the first things you can do is to turn the cloth you are trying to wash inside out. You can also consider using less detergent. If you are using a dryer you may want to air dry instead

Washing clothing in cool water will help retain colorso better than warm water. Also, make sure to wash clothes only when they are truly dirty.

Always wash in cold or cool water, use a color-fast laundry soap, and don't use too much fabric softener. Clothes highly susceptible to fading should be handwashed in cool water, and add a bit of vinegar to the rinse to help maintain color. Although air drying is also good, too much sunlight will bleach colors and should be avoided.
