How do I install a belt on a Craftsman riding mower?

If you look underneather the left foot rest you should be able to find a diagram of how to replace the belts.

Obtain an IPB (Illustrated Parts Breakdown) for your model mower. Each belt is unique and you will need to follow manufacturer's directions. You may download this from Sears.

Remove the grass catcher assembly, lower the height. Next release the tension on the deck belt, remove the deck belt assembly. Replace the pully sheilds and bolts then replace the belt assembly. Then replace the grass catcher assembly.

Place deck on lowest position. Remove the deck-to-PTO belt, release tension on the idler-arm pulley. Remove the deck from underneath the mower or tractor. Loosen belt stops. Remove pulley covers. Loosen idler-pulley retaining bolt. Loosen tension pulley bolt. Remove belt from arbor pulleys and replace it.

Find the belt that needs to be replaced and then match the socket with the bolt do loosen the belt. When the belt is loosened undo it and replace.
