How do I go about replacing a lead bathtub drain line?

The easiest way is to cut out and remove the pipe to a point of easy access. Then reconnect a plastic pipe to the existing pipe with a fernco coupling.

If I were you, i would go for a steal drain line, because the lead may poison the water. First you should look on e-bay, or craigs list. if you can't find any, you should then check antique stores in your area. They usually have old bathtubs, and you could probably negotiate something with the owner.

Call plumber and meson. Purchase required length of lead pipe. Close inlet and outlet valve. Replace lead pipe. Check leagae if any remains. Get repaired civil workif damaged and make work ok.
