The best and easiest way to learn to quilt is to take a class. If you have a large crafts store like JoAnn Fabrics or Michaels in your city, they typically offer classes in a variety of crafts. If not, check with sewing machine stores for classes.

The best way to learn how to quilt is to practice. Have all needed supplies on hand along with scrap material. Talk to others who know how to sew. Ask questions and learn about the different types of rulers, thread, needles, material, embellishements, scissors, and all other supplies that are needed. Visit a quilt show.

Quilt guilds are active in many areas of the country and world. Most sewing machine shops offer quilting classes or clubs of some kind, and specialty quilting shops are common places to find classes. Ask at local sew & vac shops that specialize in higher-end sewing machine sales and repair - they can direct you to local shops and classes.

A quilted bed comforter will do any home proud. Sewing with a needle is the basic skill as quilting is about sewing pieces of cloth together to make a thicker padding. A running stitch is used. Practise makes perfect this art.

Start small. Try to find a book or other resource to learn from, or even better, a class. Craft stores are good places to ask.

Many local people will offer quilting classes. It is best to get hands on experience with quilting, as it is hard to learn at first.

If you don't know anyone who quilts, your best bet would be join a quilting club. Also, you can borrow books and videos from your local library that will give you step by step instructions. The sales people at your local fabric store will be helpful.
