My advice is to totally go to a professional to get it done. I have brown hair and several times I have used the "do it yourself" products at home and the results always end up being a really brassy orange color. A professional can time it precisely and watch it so that you get the color you desire.

You first want to pick a highlight color that matches to your base color. If your doing your highlights at home then caramel should be a good highlighting option. You just do the highlights as per the directions on the box. If your stylist is doing them show them a reference color first.

the best way that i have found to do this is use a bleach rather then getting a carmel hair dye. if your hair is naturally dark the bleach normally takes longer to turn really blonde letting you find the exact caramel color your looking for.

You can either dye it yourself or go into a hair salon for professional highlights. If you do it yourself choose a color that is a little lighter and blonder than your current hair color. If you get it done professionally your stylist will help you choose a color that works for you.

Dont use a bleach. Use a high lift color. Less damage and you still get what you want. I suggest going to a professional, box colors are unpredictable

What you will want to do is determine what pieces of hair you want highlighted then lift the color with bleach. After this, you then place the color desired on the lighter strands of hair that you want highlighted.
