I've had the same problem - it's probably slipping in 3rd gear. It needs a rebuild, but for the time being Lucas transmission fix will keep it together.

Other than maintanance like checking the transmission fluid levels and filters (methods are found in owners manual), a transmission is quite complicated, especially on a car like a Lincoln. If you're stubborn enough to really work on your own car you'll need lots of reference and somebody who knows about your car to advise. A book, help, and good tools.

I wouldn't try fixing it yourself if your not familiar with automotive repair. My first suggestion is to take it to a shop. They will do an estimate and quote you on how much it will cost to repair it. The price will vary depending on what is wrong with the transmission.

Transmissions are very complex, heavy, and hard to get to systems. If you are not a certified transmission mechanic it is best to take it to a transmission specialist.

Well without knowing what kind of problem you are having I can't say how to fix it. Look online or bu a repair manual for tips on what troubleshooting can be done.

I would start by checking your transmission fluids and filters. The transmission is very complicated and needs many different tools and knowledge. Change your fluids and filters first to see if that fixes the problem.

Automatic transmission systems are complex, especially with the number of electronic controls and computer. First, check checking transmission fluid level, per Owner's Manual. It's recommended you take your Lincoln to your dealer or to a qualified transmission repair shop; they are equipped to toubleshoot and repair your transmission.

If it's shifting oddly the first thing to check is the fluid level, with the car at full operating temperature. Make sure the fluid is a good color and smell, as well. Other than a filter change, all other repairs will need to go to a professional.

You can start by tring a transmission flush that flushes the converter but more than likely your gonna have to tear it down.

You will ahve to take it in to get it fixed, a professional would know how to fix it. Don't let it go to long. Or go get a manual at an auto parts store. Tell them the make and model of it and year. But a professional should have a look at it first.
