The choice is yours. Go to stores, walk around and look at different items. Many young adults choose to go eclectic and bring different styles and colors together. Earth colors are more mellow and relaxing or you can brighten up your space with lively mixtures, such as pink and purple, black and red, or green and orange.

Keep your room funky and make sure it represents who you are. With that being said make sure you represent yourself with age appropriate decorations. (no hello kitty)

Decide on a theme - what feeling do you want your room to have? Look online for inspiration photos. Now, looking at pictures of rooms you like, identify parts that you could recreeate yourself - if you see a bed that you really like, think about where you could find the materials to recreate the bed in your own room.

I would decorate your room with things that will be usable when you get ready to enter college and graduate. I made the mistake of picking something so contemporary that five years later, I did not want to take it with me when I moved. Neutral colors are great.
