Make sure you always have fresh, clean water available, and give your hamster access to fresh vegetables and fruit, not just dry pellet food.

Just like in dogs, giving your hamsters a little bit of olive oil over a bit of their dry food will be great for them. Also be sure there is nothing in the cage that they are eating to create the blockage such as papers or shavings. This isn't a serious issue and should clear up quickly.

Feed it moist foods (ie strawberries or lettuce). Also, you can put olive oil on your finger for it to lick up, and make sure it has plenty of water.

I thought my vet was nuts when he suggested I put prune juice in my guinea-pigs water bottle and coat his food pellets with mineral oil. But it helped!
