the north south flow of the Indus river allowed excellent communications from the coast of the Indian Ocean to the interior of the sub-continent so ideas and influences from other cultures could easily penetrate the area. likewise the monsoon climate enabled the development of an economy that could grow enough goods to support an intellectual class.
