How can I use glass paints on a mug?

Do I need to do anything special to use glass paints on ceramic, or will it just work?

It will just work. Try not to add too much water to the paint through the brush if you can. It should apply fine though as long as you keep it not wet and wash out your brushes well.

It should work. To ensure that your Glass Paints don't come off in the wash dip the finished mug in non-toxic varnish to seal and protect the painted colors.

Ceramic wants it has been glazed and fired like a mug has can be painted with glass paints. Make sure that you don't get them inside the area you are going be drinking out of, because they are rarely non-toxic. Simple bold designs often are the best to start with if you are new to the projects.

Yes, but for best results, make sure you have the kind of glass paints you can heat set in a home oven. Pebeo is one example that usually costs under five dollars each. Start with a clean ceramic mug and either stencil or brush on your design with the paint. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for baking time and temperature.

Delta makes an awesome glass paint that doesn't require heat curing. It is important to condition the surface first, so that paint will adhere properly. You can also use foam stamps and apply the paint to the stamp. Then stamp this paint applied foam stamp onto the mug which needs to be painted.

There are glass and ceramic paint. Check your local craft store. To prepare the mug, wash throughly and wipe with a alcohol wipe. Let dry throughly. Then its ready to paint. Do not paint the inside of the mug or the area that your mouth touches. Let dry 24 hrs. Do not wash in dishwasher.

When painting on glass, be sure to purchase craft art that is specifically designed for glass. Look for acrylic paints and be sure to bake the design so it sets.

I am assuming you're using glass paints interchangeably with china paints in this case, and while you probably could use them on an average cup I would recommend against it. The glazes that are used in commercial stoneware often are not set up the same as the ones we would use in conventional ceramics and may interact badly

If your mug is glazed, then you should be able to simply follow the directions for using on glass. Ceramic glazes form a substance very similar to glass, non-porous and with a very similar hard surface. Your paints should work just fine on your mug.

draw or trace anything that you want to paint with outliner on the surface of the mug.then use paint just as you do on a glass surface. For opaque use colors only and for translucent shades mix some water (only if you are using brushes and not using the tubes direct)
