A stray cat should be taken to the veterinarian to be checked for parasites and diseases, as well as get his shots. While you're there, your vet should be able to tell you, by looking at the kitten's teeth, approximately how old the kitten is.

The easiest and most accurate way to determine the age of a kitten is to take it to the veterinarian. Most vets are very adept at determining the age of an animal where age is unknown.

well a vet told me you can tell how old a kitten is by their teeth. How many teeth they have and how they grow in will tell the age of a kitten. When they come in it show and how they break the in the gum. The vet said that you see eruption in the gums.

It is very difficult to determine the exact age of a kitten, but you can do some guess work. If it's too young to eat real food, it's only weeks (maybe three). If it's eating and going potty on it's own, but it's HEAD is still small, probably between 6 and 10 weeks.

If you weigh the kitten, it should weigh a quarter of pound for each week, for example a 6 week old kitten should weigh 1. 5 pounds or a 12 week old kitten should wiegh 3 pounds.
