How can I stop my dog from moving her puppies from the whelping box?

Most dogs remove puppies due to the box being unclean or in a noisy area. Be certain to remove feces and urine several times a day and use a gentle cleanser in the whelping area to reduce odors. You should locate the box in a warm quiet space that allows your dog privacy so she feels her pups are safe.

The box should be big enough for her to move around and stretch out without smashing the puppies. Make higher walls which will discourage her from taking the puppies from the box. The box needs to be placed in an area in which she feels safe and has low human traffic.

She's probably not going to keep them in there. If you want her to stay in that area put a dog fence around her whelping box. You know those little blue plastic kiddie pools you get at the store?? Those make great whelping box when you put something soft inside. Maybe she just doesn't think the box is big enough.

I don't know if you can stop her from moving the puppies. She is not uncomfortable, it is a natural instinct to keep the puppies where they were born.
