This is usually due to your hard drive being damaged, which means that even after having been able to boot, I'd advise you to buy a new hard drive and backup everything as soon as possible. There are utilities to repair your drive, like Spinrite by Steve Gibson

A disk boot error commonly indicates that your hard drive is damagd or defective and will likely need replacement. A licensed professional can perform a thorough diagnosis for you.

The easiest way to start with diagnosing this problem would be to boot into your operating systems installation disk and then run the recovery console. Run all HDD tests.

In order to fix a "disk boot failure," you must use your Operating System CD/DVD and boot from it. Once you have booted from it you must select the "Repair Windows" option, then you must follow the instructions to finish.

Worst case is that you will need to re-install the Operating System as the Boot drive must have gone corrupt. If your are not the IT knowledgeable, please have a qualified IT Technician examine it as it might not be a extreme case. Reinstalling OS can delete your hard disk contents if you don't know what you are doing.

Well it depends on the failure you should provide the full error message.... anyway most of the failures can be fully recovered through the console (from the original cd)

I think, there is no way to resolve boot disk failure without formatting and reinstall your operating system. But you also can go through bootable disk. But it wold be safer to format it completely then install.

To resolve a disk boot failure the hard drive could need to be restored completely or it could have to been restored to a previous point in the past. These two methods bring the hard drive to a usable point.

This is not a common issue so I advise you to proceed with caution. You might want to analyze why this happened. If it just suddenly happened, then there may be a loose contact in the Hard disk connections. Otherwise, you may need to reinstall the Operating-system properly.
