Injured, rapid, seriously ill, or otherwise dying dogs have been traditionally killed with a gun. A shotgun or rifle round in the head, while messy and probably upsetting for the owner, is very quick. Any sort of poison would just make the dog suffer. If you don't have a gun, the only other quick option is decapitation.

I would never condone putting your dog down at home. I don't even know if it is legal to do so. I do not think it would be a good idea at all. You need to take your dog to a veterinarian and have it put down by a professional.

You really should not consider putting your dog down at home, as ways of doing that can be extremely painful and inhumane to your dog. See a Vet to discuss the possibilities of what you could do that would be best for your situation.

I wouldn't recommend this since a vet is trained to do this, but you can break its neck, smash head with shovel, or simply shoot it in the head.
